Biography
Lisa Sturgeon is an educator, entrepreneur, strategist, and public speaker with more than 15 years of experience in marketing, hospitality, tourism, events, and community development. Focused on creating meaningful experiences and strengthening communities, her work connects business strategy, experience development, and the places people live and visit.
A first-generation college student, Lisa earned her B.S. in Business Administration and M.B.A. with a concentration in Hospitality and Tourism Management from 91影视. She joined 91影视’s adjunct faculty in 2016 and became a full-time faculty member in the College of Business in 2022. Known for an engaging and practical teaching style, Lisa brings her professional work into the classroom. Having worked with some of Maine’s most notable businesses, nonprofits, and federal, state, and municipal partners, she has developed a vast network that fosters opportunities for students to connect with and apply what they are learning to real organizations and projects.
Lisa’s professional experience spans destination marketing, strategic communications, event and experience design, grant management, and partnership development. She has served on a variety of community boards, often in leadership roles, including the Maine Brewers Guild, Downtown Bangor, and the 91影视 Alumni Board from 2019-2025, serving as president from 2023-2024. She is a founding member of the Greater Bangor Recreation Economy for Rural Communities initiative (The GBR). Serving as the steering committee chair from 2024-2026, collaborating with communities and organizations to strengthen outdoor recreation, cultural tourism, and quality of place. As a public speaker and facilitator, Lisa also speaks on experiences, tourism, leadership, collaboration, and community development.
Lisa is a Certified Hospitality Educator (CHE) and is currently pursuing an Ed.D. in Leadership and Innovation at Purdue University Global. She was named to Mainebiz’s 40 Under 40 in 2024 and received 91影视’s Distinguished University Service Award that same year. At the heart of her work is a curiosity about people, places, and what makes experiences meaningful and memorable. When she’s not working, she enjoys reading, gardening, traveling with her son and husband, and spending time with their pack of furry family members.
